Seeing as how I'm almost done with And Then I Met Him, I'm already planning my next story. No, I haven't started writing anything, but the ideas are there. I had mentioned one that I had wanted to write for a while now. It was inspired by two or three stories that I had read a long time ago, but that were never finished. They were just abandoned, leaving me and all the other readers with no closure. Well, I intend to finish those stories. But, since I'm too lazy to ask for permission, and since I didn't really keep track of those authors, I planned on writing my own version of a similar story that combined all three.
BUT, then I was watching reruns of an old TV show. I won't say which one, cause I don't want to give anything away. All I'll say is that it was short lived but much loved. I'd really like to try my hand at writing something similar. There are quite a few ways I think it could have been better.
Damn, I'm such a copycat. Well, I promise that I'll keep my story, whatever it is, as original as possible. I'm thinking about just combining everything into one big massive pile of angst and romance. lol (MxM, of course)
We'll see, I guess.

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with finishing up a story or following the likeness of a different's story's plot... Exhibit 1: Cinderella story.
ReplyDeleteHow many times have we seen that god awful story told? And yet we don't see angry mobs chasing anyone who follows this plot with pickaxes (or was it pitch forks?) yelling "Plagiarizer!".
Yes, I do check your blog and fp profile everyday o_o

Kudos to anonymous monster. i agree that there nothing wrong with finishing someone elses story. im pretty sure that you wouldn't copy it exactly anyway. u just do your thing. i bet it will stand on its own
ReplyDeleteHehe, I think all authors kind of do that. I do anyway. If I read a lot of stories where I like the theme, but not how it's executed or I think that it could be way better then I want to write a story similar to it, but with a twist. For some reason I think I could do a better job:)But then I started writing and damn, sometimes it's hard^_^ But then again, I am your hated enemy. An author that sometimes takes a long time to update.lol. I don't know how you can update on a schedule, especially considering your stuff is good and not just crap that was obviously slopped together for a quick update. *bows to author who doesn't offend readers by long update times*
